How do we rehumanize?
Blowing on the candle of hope in the darkest hour
At this moment in history, we are witnessing how sustained brutal tribalism and domination of one tribe over another results in perpetually escalating violence to the point of monstrosity- I mean raining down bombs on babies is called a war, as if two countries are at war? Imperial powers have stooped to the lowest of the low recently despite vast swaths of humanity asking for mercy. It seems evil has advanced as much if not more than all the technology and mechanisms of deceit and propaganda.
There are no prophets to warn us of the abyss we are facing anymore, and the so-called leaders we have in the world are blind, deaf and mute to the cries of children. Oh pretenders of civilization and democracy and human rights and women’s rights advocacy, where are children’s rights?
For decades I have been involved in dialogue across polarized groups, including Middle Eastern groups and Abrahamic faith groups. To this day, I continue to lead a global peace circle monthly where we come to rest and regenerate together as we go back out to do our hard work. These days I look at our dialogue work as feeble attempts to rehumanize us. It seems so hopeless.
