How I am processing the verdict by the American people

From a US Muslim point of view

As I went to bed on Tuesday night, my son texted me:“It’s all over, go to bed”. I said “who won”, dreading I knew the answer. “the bad guy” he said. I went to sleep and of course woke up to a flurry of emails and texts and calls later in the day about “how could this happen?” I processed the comeback of Trump- a setback for the Democratic Party- and realized for me and many US Muslims it was a good kick in the head for a non-descript Democratic Party that has lost its way and betrayed its working people mandate, and to our shock and grief and despair, has been gloatingly financing and supporting genocide of an entire nation full steam ahead, and suppressing any voices that speak up for human rights. Yes, we will suffer more here and abroad (remember the Trump Muslim Ban), but nothing compares to the support of the genocide, which has toppled the moral leadership of America forever. 70% of Americans want a cease-fire, but were not listened to.

I then began to wonder about the bigger picture- beyond my identity. What do the Trump supporters see in his campaign that convinced them to vote for him? What has the Democratic Party done or I should say not done that has made them unhappy?
