9/11/01- End of the Rosy Era

Today is September 11, a day that changed the world 22 years ago. Many other bombings and wars have happened, such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but never have they had such a negative global effect. Even the so-called World Wars -which were actually Western Power Wars- did not impact every nook and cranny of the globe. Every time I am at an airport I am annoyed at rule of taking off shoes, belts, etc.; fortunately my husband now gets a pass not to take off his shoes as he has reached the mature age of 75! Of course, COVID happened 3.5 years ago, and has had a totally global impact also-whether it is positive or negative is still open to examination and of course different interpretations. For me, a rosy era ended on 9/11/01 here in America, since my arrival 55 years ago.

My friend’s 29 year old son perished that day on one of the top floors of WTC, and I visited her as she stared at the Hudson river from the riverwalk for weeks after the event, hoping he was hiding in some underground tunnel or crevice. My daughter had just finished her internship with a government agency at 7 WTC a week before, and thankfully was not there. Her cousin called from Dubai screaming in fear thinking she was still working there, and we reassured her. I worked on Wall Street in 80’s and 90’s and…
